Supervisor of the Month

Yesterday, just before ending my shift, my Sr. Manager approached me and just sort of stood there. I asked her if she needed something, to which she replied “no”, and continued to just stand there.

I knew something was up, but wasn’t quite sure what.

Then within seconds, a few more people came over with a gift bag and balloons and it all became clear. I had won Supervisor of the month for the month of September 2014! (They were behind in delivering it because I had been out on leave) This makes my second time earning the award, the first being August 2014. (I also won “Support Employee of the month” in June 2013 prior to becoming a supervisor)

The best part? I was able to mark my first goal of 2015 as complete! (However, I would still like to earn the award again for a month in 2015)

Re: Country

When I first heard this song —-> link on the radio a few months back I immediately thought that some of Taylor’s songs would do well on the country circuit…

JMO…

Regarding Taylor giving credit where credit is due—-

If there’s one thing Taylor HAS done (right) during his career )Pre AND Post Idol), is give credit on the songs he performs…I think I’ve listened to every live set out there and he’s always mentioning some band, or songwriter, or musician that might be behind whatever song he is about to sing…even giving “extra” bits of info like WHERE a song was written or first performed, etc…..

How many times did he give a song credit at the Roxy alone? I know he did before singing “Nineteen” (written by Jeffrey Steel) and “The Right Place” (written by Bryan Adams) and “My Sweet Lord” which is a Billy Preston version of a George Harrison song…One of the times I saw him live he gave credit to numerous songwriters (rob thomas comes to mind)

Now, don’t get me wrong…I’ve done my fair share of “worrying” over the last few years of my “fantardom”…what song will he sing? What will he wear? will he pull it off? will he sell out? blah, blah, blah… but worry about HIM–Taylor Hicks– taking credit for a song he didn’t write/create? Nope. Can’t say I ever worried about that, because he’s never given me reason to.

Can I just say how glad I am that THIS is the song he’s chosen to sing on AI and not “What’s right is right” or “the distance”? It’s arguably the best song on the album, in my opinion.

I am much looking forward to what has been a long time comin’…

Since I can’t edit…I brought up the “dial idol” history in response to this:

“Now think, how many voted for him ONLY after their favorite was not there any more? ”

That might be true, but he was #1 at Dial Idol every week, which shows a trend…not a sudden change because someone’s favorite is gone.

On your point about the # of voters for Taylor…
Yes, there are power voters and such…Lord knows I had two phones going for two hours straight every week. LOL But even without all that I firmly believe he had far more fans than the others that year…He was #1 EVERY week at Dial Idol…EVERY week! (Go look, it’s still there to see)…and a lot of weeks he was ahead by far. A lot of people thought Chris was his biggest competition, but Chris was low on Dial Idol a lot and went home at top 4. Kat’s and Elliot’s homecomings PALED in comparison to Taylor’s. Thousands of people lined the streets for Taylor. I think there was maybe 20 for Kat. (j/k, but it wasn’t many…hehe) and I know things like post counts and google hits don’t really measure a person’s “success”, but he had faaaaar more than the other contestants that year. I’m just saying that like, in almost every facet that you can think of, Taylor was sooo far ahead of the others that year, not just by a little, but AHEAD. Ya know?

Bottom line for me is no matter what the current state of his carrer might be, the fact remains that he was HUGELY popular the year he won and he DID have a huge following….

You know, for a lot of people Taylor IS the punchline.
He’s been called the worst American Idol winner of them all.
None of my family and RL friends like him or his music.
I am mocked because it’s 3 years later and not only did I KNOW about his new album coming out, but I was in line to buy it the day it did.
I’m ok with being the only one in my circle of friends to have “Taylor Hicks” in my shuffle.
I’ve completely accepted the fact that Taylor is not some huge pop sensation. Or rock star. Or a wildly successful indie musician. Or… [whatever it is that you want him to be]

Right now, he’s just not the “cool” thing to enjoy. I haven’t liked a lot of the decisions he’s made in his career. The ice cream cone…Gimme tonight…the side lean…taylorhickshq…

…but you know what? None of that really matters because all I gotta do is put on my headphones and listen to some “Georgia” or some “Texas Flood” or some “Naked in the Jungle” or any number of his songs where he really had those “moments” and I’m right back where I was three years ago…ardent supporter…loyal fan…whether it’s the “in” thing to be or not.

His voice…always brings me back.

wow – these videos are fucking awesome.
Thank you cc for offering them, and thank you IAG for posting them.

Re: GC
The thing that initially drew me to Taylor in the first place was his music – the way he injected passion into everything I had heard him sing (up to that point). So for a music lover as myself to have found a site like GC, where not only did I get the latest regarding Taylor, but I also had some of the best discussions *ever* regarding music in general…it was great. The thing that I most liked about GC.com was that I found a TON of new music that I probably never would have had it not been for GC.com….a lot came from GC himself, and a lot came out of the comments. The gratitude I feel for that alone is hard to put into words…THAT alone MORE than makes up for ANYthing that I may not have “personally” liked about his site.

I’m not trying to sound like a music snob…I’ll admit I had my fair share of discussions on Taylor’s looks, etc that had nothing to do with the music….I mean, his thighs are something to behold! hello! But, back then there were a TON of fansites where you could get that kind of talk….but VERY few like GC.com that really did focus on the music.

[Other Writing] A Tour of Georgia

…let me take you on a tour of “Georgia” as I envision it…

Taylor is alone on stage behind a microphone. Lights are subtle. Acoustic guitar begins to play as the audience turns silent.

His first word is Georgia…repeated…immediately after that second Georgia at time 0:10 he looks over to the right side very seriously, much like he did during “trouble”…with that “elvis-ish” look…you know…the “look”…

when it gets to 0:52 – 0:58 he sings “sweeeeet and cleeear” he moves his legs reminiscent to “Trouble” and “TITTS”…you know where he moves them back in forth in that oh so sexy way? and has a death grip on the mic stand? yeah…that…

Then we hear him sing “Other arms reach out to me…….other eyes smile tenderly” from 1:12 to 1:28…he leans his head back in soulful, Ray fashion…you know what I’m talking about…where he makes that fist…oh the fist…he may even lift his leg up “Levon” style as he sings “tenderly”…he is totally teasing us…we have no idea what he has in store for us…

And then we get to 3:22 to 3:30…oh that growl…this is where Taylor finally begins really teasing us…showing us just a glimpse of what’s to come…we *almost* know what it feels like to be taken *there*…but not quite yet……this part yearns to be the climax, but Taylor has stamina…and he is not quite through with us yet…
because…
here it comes…
oh yes…
almost here…
YES…
5: 05-5:10…he peaks with the simple word Georgia…elongated over multiple syllables…we love elongated multiple syllables from our southern beau…that moment right there will have the audience and judges on their feet, if they’re not turned to jello, and in awe of the legend we know as Taylor Hicks.

and just when you think it couldn’t possibly get any better…it continues…

Through 5:37 to 5:55 he just keeps bombarding us with his pure raw soul…over and over again…we don’t know how much more of this we can actually take…he has definitely just taken us *there* and we will never go back…
